Situation

A U.S.-based financial services firm provides 24/7 global money transfer services, including money orders online and at thousands of retail locations with a home-grown application. It also provides money orders, business payments, and commercial services.

The firm used an existing replication engine in an active/active (partitioned) business continuity architecture on HPE Nonstop Systems (Figure 1). The firm performs periodic platform refreshes to keep hardware current.

Problem

The firm needed to:

• Relocate to new datacenters
• Perform a platform refresh
• Replace its existing replication (due to its dramatic increase in pricing and lack of support)
• Complete each step with continuous application availability and full business continuity protection

Solution

• Use Shadowbase Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM) for HPE Nonstop software to perform the hardware platform refresh, and replace the existing replication engine (see slider below)
• Use Shadowbase Compare for HPE Nonstop software to validate the source and target data match before migrating over the users
• Use Shadowbase Business Continuity for HPE Nonstop software bi-directional data replication in an active/active partitioned architecture (Figure 2)
