The latest Shadowbase release introduces a variety of enhancements designed to make data replication more flexible, resilient, and easier to manage. From expanded Zero Data Loss (ZDL) capabilities to improved configuration options and queue management, this update helps organizations simplify administration while strengthening business continuity.

Here’s a look at what’s new:

Smarter Data Replication Configuration

Configuring replication has become even more flexible with new options for selecting Enscribe files. Expanded logic checks make it easier to include exactly the files you want while avoiding unnecessary ones.

New wildcard matching capabilities, improved filtering options, and a new CATCHALL setting help streamline configuration by ensuring all intended files are included—even in more complex environments. These enhancements reduce manual effort and make ongoing configuration easier to maintain.

Expanded Shadowbase Zero Data Loss SupportHPE Shadowbase Zero Data Loss

Shadowbase Zero Data Loss (ZDL) provides synchronous replication that helps eliminate the possibility of data loss by ensuring transactions are safely stored on the target system before they commit.

This release expands ZDL with bi-directional replication support, enabling organizations to build more advanced high-availability architectures, including Sizzling-Hot-Takeover and fully Active/Active environments. The result is greater flexibility for organizations looking to maximize uptime while maintaining continuous data protection.

More Control with Enhanced Queue Management

The Shadowbase Queue Manager (QMGR) has been enhanced to give administrators more control over how replicated data is delivered to target systems.

New replay capabilities allow users to start, stop, restart, or reposition queued data more easily, making it simpler to manage replication during planned maintenance, recovery scenarios, or operational changes. These improvements provide finer control without disrupting the overall replication workflow.

Simplified Recovery with the New SB_GEN_DRAIN Commandnumbers

Recovering queued replication data is now easier thanks to the new SB_GEN_DRAIN command.

When a source system becomes unavailable, this command simplifies replaying any remaining events stored in Shadowbase queue files that have not yet been applied to the target database. It helps organizations recover more efficiently while reducing the complexity of manual intervention.

Greater Flexibility for User Exits

Organizations that extend Shadowbase through custom user exits will benefit from new deployment options in this release.

User exits can now be built as dynamic libraries (DLLs) and linked into a configuration at runtime, making customization easier to deploy and maintain. In addition, C++ user exits for HPE Nonstop Guardian environments are now supported out of the box, providing developers with greater flexibility when integrating custom business logic into replication workflows.

Quick Tips for Upgrading

While every project is different and most will require proper planning, procedures, and documentation, the upgrade process typically includes:

  1. Select a time window for performing the upgrade, preferably with little or no activity.
  2. Gracefully shut down the existing replication threads using the AUDCOM SHUTDOWN command.
  3. Restart replication using the new configuration files.
  4. Shadowbase software will resume replication from where it was shut down.

Professional Services are available to help users migrate and upgrade to the newest version.
